An eSIM, short for “embedded SIM,” is a digital SIM card that is already built into your phone. That means no more hassle with swapping tiny plastic SIM cards. With an eSIM abroad, you can activate your new SIM quickly and easily, without having to change cards. It also means you can't lose it. An eSIM works in the Netherlands and abroad, as long as your phone and your mobile provider support it. Sometimes you will also see it written as “e-SIM.”
It's easier than you might think. You
activate your eSIM
directly through the
Mijn Simyo app
. You can do this as soon as you sign up for a plan. Whether you choose
Prepaid
,
Sim Only
or a
plan with a phone
, you just download the eSIM and start using it immediately. You can even set up multiple numbers on the same device, which is especially handy when you are abroad and want to add a local mobile plan. You will need a Wi-Fi connection to activate and manage your eSIM, so make sure to do this before you arrive at your destination.
With an eSIM, you can do exactly the same things as with a traditional plastic SIM card: calling, texting and using mobile data. The only thing you need is a phone that supports eSIM. You get all the same features as before, just without the physical limitations. Using mobile data or switching between networks? Easy as that!
