My mobile internet is not working

No internet on your phone? Causes and fixes

Are you unable to open web pages or do you not see check marks next to your WhatsApp messages? Then you're probably not connected to the mobile network. Read more below about the causes and solutions for when your internet is not working in the Netherlands or abroad.

No mobile data?

Try this first. The solution may be easier than you think.

1

Restart your phone

Sometimes your SIM card needs to reconnect to the network.

2

Check your phone settings

Is mobile data turned on?

3

Check your Simyo settings

Open the Mijn Simyo app and go to settings > internet and calling, and check whether the correct options for internet are enabled.

4

Check your data bundle

Did you turn on our dataplafond (data cap)? Then your internet bundle has possibly run out. You can buy 500 MB quickly by texting “500 MB aan” to 1330.

Do you still not have an internet connection?

This step-by-step guide will help you identify the connection problem and how to solve it.

1. First, restart your phone

Turn off your phone completely for five minutes and then restart it. This should reconnect your SIM card to our network. Often, this already fixes the problem.

2. Check your data bundle

Have you activated a dataplafond (data cap)? Then you may have run out of data. Do you want to continue using data? Then it's best to purchase additional data. You can purchase additional MBs via Mijn Simyo or via the Mijn Simyo app. You can also send an SMS with “500 MB aan” to 1330 to immediately purchase 500 MB for €5.

3. Check the network settings

First, check whether the option 'Internet in Nederland' (Internet in the Netherlands) is enabled on Mijn Simyo or in the Mijn Simyo app.

Are you abroad? Then make sure that the options 'Bellen in en naar het buitenland' (Calling in and to foreign countries) and 'Internetten in het buitenland' (Using internet abroad) are also enabled. You can find these options under Settings > Internet and calling.

4. Update your phone and review the settings

To access a provider's mobile network with your phone, you need an APN (Access Point Name). With most phones, the APN is set automatically when you insert a SIM card into your device. Sometimes this does not work properly. Use our Device Help to check the settings for internet abroad on your phone.

5. Abroad? Try a different network

Sometimes, when you cross the border, your phone automatically connects to a network that doesn't provide a stable connection. In that case, you can try selecting a different network. We explain how to do this on your phone in our step-by-step plan for network selection .

6. Has your SIM card been blocked?

Are you unable to make calls with your Simyo SIM card? Then it's best to check the status of your SIM card on Mijn Simyo . Is it possible that it has been blocked because it had been lost or stolen earlier, or is there an outstanding invoice? In the first two cases, you can reactivate your SIM card yourself. In the latter case, you can pay the outstanding invoice. We will then unblock your SIM card as soon as possible.

Do you have Simyo Prepaid? Then you can only make calls and use the internet if your call credit is above €0, even if you have an additional data bundle. You can top up via Mijn Simyo.

7. Perform a cross-test

To find out exactly where the problem lies, it is useful to use your SIM card with another phone. Also check whether another SIM card can access the internet on your phone. We call this a cross-test. It helps customer service solve the problem faster

8. Contact our customer service

Have you completed all of the above steps, but still can't get online? Please contact our customer service team . We will be happy to help you find a solution.

Wi-Fi on mobile phone not working: did you check this yet?

There are two things to check if your Wi-Fi connection is not working:

Your router

First, check if other devices (tablet, other phone, laptop) are able to connect to the WiFi network. If other devices are also unable to connect to the internet, then the issue is with the router. Restart your router or contact your internet provider.

The device itself (your phone)

Can you connect to the network on another device? Then the problem has something to do with your phone. Restart it to reconnect to the network. Still no connection? Then check whether the Wi-Fi function is turned on. You can find this in your phone's settings.

Question?
Answer

My 4G settings are correct, but 4G still doesn’t work

Did you try the steps in our Device Help to manually set up the internet on your phone?

Are you in an area with 4G coverage? Check the 4G coverage in your area .

Did you check everything, but is 4G still not working? Then it could be your SIM card. Old SIM cards (with a SIM number starting with a 4) are not suitable for use with the 4G network. In that case, you can order a replacement SIM card on Mijn Simyo or in the app under Settings > SIM card.

I have a 4G connection but not 5G. How is this possible?

First things first: check whether your phone is 5G-compatible. You can find this information in your phone's specifications.

Is your phone 5G-compatible, but you don't see 5G on your screen? Then follow the steps below:

  • Turn on airplane mode.
  • Restart your phone.
  • Go to your phone's settings and select “mobile networks”/ “mobile network” > “network mode”/ “mobile data options.” Turn on 5G here.
  • Check whether you are now connected to 5G. It's possible you need to restart your phone.
  • If everything goes well, the 5G symbol will appear at the top right of your screen.

I can’t make calls abroad, how do I fix this?

I don't have any Prepaid credit anymore, but I do have a data bundle. Why can’t I go online?

When your call credit runs out, you won't be able to make calls, send texts, or use the internet. At that point, you won't be able to use your data bundle either until you top up. Want to make sure you never run out of call credit? You can turn on automatic top-up via Mijn Simyo.

What if I don’t want to use mobile data with Mijn Simyo SIM card?

In that case, you can disable the ‘Internetten in Nederland’ (Internet in the Netherlands) setting on Mijn Simyo and in the Mijn Simyo app via 'Instellingen' (Settings) > 'Internetten en bellen' (Internet and calling). Do you only want to disable internet for abroad? Then just disable the ‘Internet abroad’ option.

Why is my reception so poor?

Have you completed all the steps above to fix your network issues? If so, poor reception may be due to your location. If you only experience this problem in a certain place, you can check our coverage map .
