What is an eSIM?

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital version of a SIM card, that is built directly into your device. You don’t need a physical SIM card anymore to activate or switch your mobile plan. Since 2018, many iPhone models support eSIM , allowing you to activate a cellular plan alongside your physical SIM.

That means quicker setup and the option to use two phone numbers on one device, ideal if you’re travelling or want to keep work and personal lines separate.

Installing eSIM on your iPhone

There are several ways to install an eSIM on your iPhone . At Simyo, activation happens entirely via the My Simyo app. There is no need to scan a QR code.

Activate during iPhone setup

Setting up a new iPhone? You can activate your eSIM during the installation process by tapping ‘Use QR code’ on the ‘Set Up Cellular’ screen and following the on-screen instructions.

Please note: Simyo doesn’t support this method yet. First finish your iPhone setup, then activate your eSIM like this:

  1. Log in to the My Simyo app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to Settings → SIM card, and choose ‘Switch to eSIM’ or ‘Reinstall eSIM’.
  3. Verify your identity.
  4. Choose if you want to use a second SIM. Select either ‘Use one SIM’ or ‘Use two SIMs at the same time’.
  5. Tap to install your eSIM. A screen will pop up.
  6. Tap 'Continue' when prompted to activate an eSIM.
  7. Tap 'Continue' again. Your eSIM will now be installed and activated.
  8. Turn on Airplane Mode for a moment. It may take up to 5 minutes before your eSIM is active.

Manually transferring your eSIM to a new iPhone

Got a new iPhone? Just request a new eSIM via the My Simyo app . Once activated, your old SIM will be deactivated automatically.

Using Quick Transfer

Apple offers Quick Transfer during setup on a new device. You can use this feature to transfer your eSIM automatically, if your carrier supports it. Simyo plans to enable this in the future.

Follow the on-screen instructions during setup and double-check your phone number by making a call. It’s a quick and seamless way to transfer eSIM.

Dual Sim on iPhones

Most iPhones let you use one physical SIM and one eSIM at the same time. Perfect if you want to separate work and personal calls, without carrying two phones.

Setting up Dual Sim

Log in to the My Simyo app and confirm your mobile plan. Choose if you want one or two active SIMs, and follow the steps to activate your eSIM. Within minutes you will be able to make calls, send texts and use mobile data with both numbers.

  • Set the default line per contact.
  • Switch between lines in the Phone app.
  • Use both lines for iMessage and FaceTime. Choose which one to use for new messages.
